Frequently Asked Questions

Why replace my S&W Shield back plate?

Because it looks cooler.

(Seriously.)

While a back plate doesn’t necessarily offer any functional benefits for your pistol, it’s a great way to personalize your firearm and set it apart from the rest. Plus, a back plate is subtle and easy to install. Instead of replacing your entire slide or swapping your grip, you can add a simple touch of personality that won’t draw unnecessary attention to your handgun.

How do I replace the back plate?

Remove the slide and grab a small punch—⅛” works perfectly. Behind the firing pin, punch down into the white cup to relieve the pressure from the plate. Once the pressure is relieved, slide the plate off with your thumb.

Slide your new back plate into place, and use the other end of your punch to take the pressure off the cup again. Once your plate slides over the cup, remove the punch and keep pushing until you hear a positive click.
