Over the past several months, Starbucks and Milspin have been working together to create branded hats and custom marketing materials promoting the Starbucks Armed Forces Network and their efforts to hire and support veterans around the Globe.
The Starbucks headquarters in Seattle, WA has a large steel map of the Earth. With the direction of the great minds at Starbucks, we were tasked to produce color toned magnetic map markers to represent each of the participating Starbucks locations who have "Adopted a Unit" in support of the Armed Forces Network's mission.
The magnetic map markers were machined and engraved from both stainless steel and brass, and embedded with magnets on the backsides. The various color tones represented each of the US Military Branches. A small slot was milled out at the bottom of each magnet that is used to write in the units adopted by each participating Starbucks location.
The final component to this project was to create a legend that explained the different meanings of each colored map marker and information on how other Starbucks locations can "Adopt a Unit." We machined the legend out of 6061 Aircraft Grade Aluminum, gave it a Glass Bead Blasted elegant finish, and deep engraved the text with our cnc mills. Each of the respective map markers were embedded into the legend and 4 rare earth magnets were embedded into the back side of the legend so it could easily adhere to the large steel map.
This was an incredible project to work on and we are looking forward to the next project with Starbucks!
